Common Ground Markets

Common Ground Markets is a new community markets and events operator establsihed by Yarraville local and business owner, Jill Hale.

A passionate advocate for local businesses, Jill volunteers as an Executive Committee member with Yarraville Business Association (now YKBA), and on the School Council at Kingsville Primary School.

As a stallholder, Jill has benefitted from the comraderie and connectedness of local markets. She can attest to the incredible contribution these weekly or monthly markets to the community they serve and the small businesses they provide trading opportunties for.

But in Jill's heartland of Yarraville, and it's neighbouring suburbs of Kingsville and Seddon, there are no established markets for the locals and visitors to enjoy.

So, we bring to you Common Ground Markets — an enterprise that will create and operate curated, location-based community markets across Melbourne's inner west — starting with Yarraville. Our vision is to establish a free local market every week (different locations) to provide residents with farm fresh produce, grocery staples, artisan goods, locally-made treats and specialty beverages.

Common Ground Markets will preserve a standard: local, Australian-made, sustainable, and built around the neighbourhoods they serve.

What we do

We don't just run markets; we curate them. We choose stallholders carefully, hold every one to a clear standard, operate plastic-free towards zero waste, and put community at the centre. Each market is local to its place but shares the same promise.

Our markets
