When and where is the market?
How this market works. As a farmers market we will be predominantly fresh food, where farmers, growers and local specialty producers sell directly to the public. All items must be sold directly by the producer or maker. No wholesalers or resellers are permitted.
Distinctive stalls, room to grow
You can usually predict a market before you have parked. Four stalls with the same tomatoes, three with the same jam. We do ours differently. We ask every stallholder to bring something distinctive in their category, so shoppers find real variety rather than the same thing over and over. As the market grows we will welcome additional producers and makers whenever there’s demand to support them. It means our growers and makers get a fair go, with enough customers to make the trip worthwhile.
Our launch market is Sunday 27 September 2026, 8am to 1pm, at Bassett Reserve, Geelong Road, West Footscray VIC 3012. The reserve sits right where Yarraville, Kingsville and West Footscray meet. We then trade on the fourth Sunday of every month. To hear market news first, join our mailing list or register your interest.
What kind of market is it?
A varied, food-first farmers market. Everything sold must be Australian-grown and made. Our ethos is quality, authenticity, creativity and community.
Who can apply?
- Growers: fruit, veg, cut flowers, plants, seedlings, edible agricultural products
- Producers: baked goods, pasta, preserves, cider, wine, beer, packaged food
- Hot food & coffee vendors
- Specialty beverages, including breweries and distilleries
- Community groups: dedicated free sites for local clubs and causes
What won’t you consider?
Anything not Australian-grown or made; imported or resold goods (we’re for the people who actually grow, make or design what they sell); mass-produced items; and anything off our food-first ethos. We plan for category balance and variety, so even excellent stalls won’t fit every market.
How many stalls will there be?
We’re planning for around 50 stalls at launch. Space is limited and we plan the line-up carefully, so early applications get priority.
What are the site fees?
Casual monthly bookings, join when it suits you:
- Standard 3×3m site: $80
- Hot food / coffee 3×3m site: $80
- Food truck: $110
- Community group: free
Payment is taken automatically 25 days before each market; merchant/processing fees are passed on at cost. Your site isn’t secured until payment is received.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. A minimum of $10 million Public Liability Insurance, with a current Certificate of Currency.
What other licences or permits do I need?
- Food & beverage vendors: registered through FoodTrader (evidence with your application)
- Liquor vendors: a current liquor licence
- Gas cooking / open flame: fire extinguisher and fire blanket on hand, and CFA compliance
Your Statement of Trade. All food and beverage vendors must hold a current Statement of Trade, lodged through Victoria's FoodTrader portal, before market day. When you lodge yours, use these event details:

Do I need to be VFMA-accredited?
No. VFMA registration isn’t required to apply, and the market isn’t pursuing VFMA accreditation at this stage. We always welcome VFMA-registered producers.
What do I need to set up?
- A 3×3m marquee (standard site), secured with approved weights: minimum 20kg per leg (open marquee) or 40kg per leg (enclosed), rated to at least 80kph
- No stakes or pins anywhere, no exceptions (safety)
- Your own tables and signage (kept within your site, never blocking walkways)
Is there power?
No powered sites, so be self-sufficient. No leads across walkways; all electrical gear must be tested and tagged. Generators are by prior arrangement only, must be quiet inverter-type units, and must comply with EPA Victoria and City of Maribyrnong noise rules.
What are the sustainability rules?
The market is 100% single-use plastic free and working towards zero waste. All packaging, presentation and serving must be reusable, recyclable or compostable wherever possible, and you remove your own waste.
What’s the weather policy?
We run rain or shine. For safety we may alter layouts, relocate stalls, delay, suspend or cancel. If a market is cancelled due to an emergency or severe weather, no refunds or credits are issued.
What’s the cancellation and refund policy?
- Stall fees are non-refundable for cancellations within 14 days of the market
- Booking and merchant fees are non-refundable
- Outside 14 days, credits may be offered at our discretion
