A New Monthly Market Is Coming to Yarraville

Open parkland with mature gum trees and mown grass, low morning sun casting long shadows.

We've got news the neighbourhood has been waiting for: a new monthly market is coming to Yarraville and Kingsville. Yarraville Farmers Market launches in September 2026 — a farmers market built on a simple promise that everything on the tables must be genuinely good.

Here's everything you need to know: what it is, when and where, what you'll find, what we stand for, and how to get involved — whether you want to shop, sell, or simply be first to know when the gates open.

What is Yarraville Farmers Market?

Yarraville Farmers Market is a monthly market for the inner west, operated by Common Ground Markets. "Variety" is the important word. You will find real range on the tables, from the fresh, local, Australian-made produce you rely on to things you have never tried before, so there is always a regular favourite to stock up on and something new to discover. Every stall brings something distinctive, and as the market grows we will add additional producers and makers whenever there's demand to support them, while keeping a real sense of distinctiveness between every stall.

It's a food market first. Think Victorian-grown produce, quality local meats and dairy, eggs and pantry staples, bread and baked goods, and specialty pours — with a small, carefully chosen handful of artisan makers alongside. The goal is a market you can do your real weekly shopping at, not just browse.

When and where

Mark the calendar:

  • When: Fourth Sunday of every month, 8am to 1pm
  • Where: Bassett Reserve, Geelong Road, West Footscray, right where Yarraville, Kingsville and West Footscray meet, just across Geelong Road from Cruikshank Park
  • First market: Sunday 27 September 2026
  • Entry: Free

A monthly rhythm is deliberate. It keeps the market special, gives stallholders time to bring their best, and makes market day something to look forward to rather than take for granted.

What you'll find

Every market will bring together the best of the region's growers and makers:

  • Fresh produce — Victorian-grown fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, direct from growers who know their soil.
  • Quality meats & dairy — pasture-raised and ethically farmed, from butchers and producers who can tell you the story behind every cut.
  • Eggs & pantry — pasture-raised eggs, local honey, home-made preserves, oils and condiments.
  • Bread & baked goods — sourdough and pastries from local bakers who wake earlier than the rest of us.
  • Specialty pours — small-batch, artisanal and craft beverages worth seeking out.
  • Artisanal goods — a small, distinctive selection of handmade objects from local makers.

What we stand for

We believe a great market isn't just a collection of stalls — it's an act of community. That belief shapes how we run every part of Yarraville Farmers Market:

Australian-made, always. Every product must be Australian-grown and made. It's how we back local producers and guarantee the quality and provenance of what's on offer.

Sustainable by default. We operate 100% single-use plastic free across the entire market and are working towards zero waste at every event. Packaging, presentation and serving all have to meet the standard — and we'll be asking our visitors to help us get there too.

Ethical and socially responsible. From how stallholders source their ingredients to how we run the site, we take our responsibilities seriously. Good for people, good for producers, good for the neighbourhood.

More than a monthly market: our seasonal events

Alongside the monthly markets, two seasonal events will anchor the year:

Christmas Twilight Market. An evening under the stars and in the community — food and drinks, seasonal treats, carols and festive activities for all. A December date will be announced.

Summer Afternoon Affair. A long afternoon of great food, craft beverages, care-free shopping and live music — the unhurried market you'll want to linger at. A February date will be announced.

Why Yarraville and Kingsville?

Because this neighbourhood is exactly the kind of place markets are made for. Yarraville and Kingsville are walkable, close-knit and proud of their local character — the sort of suburbs where people still shop with a basket and stop to chat. Hosting the market in the Yarraville / Kingsville (near Somerville Road) area roots it firmly in the community it serves, with local families at the heart of it.

It also fills a gap. The inner west loves its food and its makers, and a varied, standards-led monthly market gives both a proper home.

Calling growers, producers and makers

A market is only as good as the people behind the stalls — and we're building our founding line-up now. Applications are open now for stallholders ahead of our launch market on Sunday 27 September 2026: growers, bakers, cheesemakers, butchers, coffee roasters, condiment makers, brewers, winemakers and artisan craftspeople who are serious about their craft and their community.

Priority consideration goes to local stallholders from Yarraville, Kingsville and the inner west, YKBA members, and VFMA-registered producers. If that sounds like you, apply to be a stallholder — it only takes a few minutes, and we'll review applications on a rolling basis ahead of launch.
